Sleeping sickness

I got the Idea for this prompt from a song by the band City and Color, called sleeping sickness. Write about a serial killer that has invented a way to steal "breath" from victims leaving the only sign of death, atrophied lungs due to lack of breathing. The serial killer has certain plans for this breath, it may be trying to bring his love back to consciousness, or maybe to sell the breath for others to live longer.
